Key features of Riverfront Park

• Whitewater channel: The most prominent feature of the new park is the planned whitewater channel, which was announced in August 2025. Designed by Olympic kayaker Scott Shipley, the channel will feature adjustable whitewater elements to accommodate all skill levels, from beginners to Olympic athletes.
• Public access: The new channel will include public access points and spectator areas, creating a world-class outdoor recreation destination. It is scheduled to open in 2027.
• Park space: The park, located on four acres next to the White Mill, will include general green space for the community to enjoy.
• Playground and splash pad: The park will feature a children’s play area with structures shaped like an otter and other interactive water features, including a splash pad.
• River overlooks: An overlook is planned where visitors can walk out and enjoy scenic views of the Dan River.
